Brief Description

Gir has gained worldwide fame as the last home of the Asiatic Lions. This sub-species was once widely distributed in Asia, from Asia Minor and Arabia through Persia to India. In the Indian sub-continent, its range extended across northern India, as far as east to Bihar, with the Narmada river marking the southern limit. Before the close of the last century, the Asiatic lion had become extinct from its range except for Gir.

The forest department initiated the wildlife conservation program for the Asiatic lions in September 1965 by declaring Gir as a sanctuary with its headquarters in Sasan. With the implementation of the wildlife management plan and the Gir Development Scheme, the population of lions increased gradually from 177 in 1968 to 523 in 2015. Not only the lion, the count of other wildlife found in Gir has also improved.

DAY 1

Arrival & Village Tour

Arrive at your hotel, have lunch and relax. In the evening, visit the orientation center or the amphitheater at Sinh Sadan where you can learn about the area or watch a free of cost film show on Gir. Come back, have dinner and relax.

DAY 2

Morning & Evening Safari

 

Wake-up at 4:30 AM, have tea/coffee and head for a morning safari. Come back, have breakfast followed by lunch and relax. Gear up for another safari at 2:30 PM. Come back have dinner and relax.  

DAY 3

Morning & Evening Safari

Wake-up at 4:30 AM, have tea/coffee and head for a morning safari. Come back, have breakfast followed by lunch and relax. Gear up for another safari at 2:30 PM. Come back have dinner and relax.  

DAY 4

Bus Safari, Breakfast & Check-out

Wake-up, visit Devalia Park for a Bus Safari. Come back have breakfast and check-out post breakfast.

Things to keep in mind when you visit here

  • The National Park is closed for tourists from 1st July to 15th October every year.
  • Safaris are subject to availability since the number of vehicles allowed per day is limited.
  • The temperature in winter usually drops down to 5 degrees and in summer rises to around 48 degrees. So we recommend that you pack according to the season you are traveling.

SAFARI Details/ Instructions

  • ID Proof of each person who has opted for a safari is mandatory for entering any national park/ wildlife sanctuary in India.
  • A maximum of 6 adults and 1 child (up to the age of 10 years) will be allowed in a gypsy apart from the guide and driver.
  • The safari charges for Indian and foreign nationals are different at all major wildlife destinations
  • The duration of jungle safari is approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes to 3 hours.
  • The bus safari is of approximately 45 minutes which is held at Devalia Safari Park which is a chain-linked fenced area of the Gir sanctuary.
  • Wear clothes that blend with the forest landscape and avoid wearing fragrances.
  • No one can guarantee that you will spot a wild animal during safari, so don't fall for it and pay more.
  • Do not get down from your vehicle and strictly obey the law and rules of the jungle.
  • Maintain silence throughout your safari for best chances of spotting wildlife.
